How we got there!

August 1990
It all started when I answered an advert in the Saturday's Advertiser

for a Primary School Teacher at a place called Fregon. I told Bruce (my husband) that I just wanted to see if the Education Department would employ me after having 10 years of contracted work and 2 years of working in a factory. I had no idea where this place was other than in central Australia and it was isolated.

After 2 phone interviews with the Principal (Anne Mountford) and another with the staffing officer for Aboriginal Education. The job was offered to me but we had to be up there in one week.
"No worries", I said. I still had to explain to Bruce and the boys that I was uprooting their lives for an adventure that I had no idea of what I was heading them off too. It was the maddest one-week of my life.

We had two birthday parties, one for David who was turning 6 and one for James who was turning 5. I organised all immunization injections I could think of, got new glasses for me and bought enough medicines to cover all know diseases of the modern world and enough food to last for a long time. I didn't know if there was anywhere where you could buy food. We packed everything we could into the VC Valiant stationwagon including the dog. Bruce had taken one weeks holiday from work and would be returning to Adelaide via the bus leaving me with the kids and the car.
