PRODUCTION NOTES
Since its inception in 1966, the stock saloon section has proved to be extremely popular for the public and competitors. The numbers have increased remarkably, and registered cars in the local area alone number over 100, including some of the latest model cars in Australia.
South Australia As the greatest lineup of latest model cars ever scene and even though these cars of basically standard, with the only minor modifications, they have proven the equal of interstate cars with full house motors. In fact, at Easter time this year the local fender benders, put most of the interstate red hot cars to shame to score convincing wins at every center they visited, as well as providing the local night life with a bit of colour.

MODIFIED MENTION
On behalf of the super modified section, I would like to welcome you to the opening meeting of Thunderbird raceway as promoted by fellow driver Doug Sundstrom.
Super modified some are now entering the fifth season, during which time they have it increased in popularity and sophistication. The turning point came about when drivers like in Zeke Agars. designed a chassis after studying several top Americans sprintcars and super modified. In seven years he has built 14 cars for drivers like Ray Skipper, Peter Denton, John Moyle, Ray Baker, Peter Jungfer, Brian Flaherty, Ron Quigley, and two of his own. From this high standard has been achieved with the cost of cars ranging from $1,200 to $5,000.00, depending on what the individual can afford. That is why sponsorship is becoming a more important to our sections.
Club records now show 30 registered cars with approximately five more nearing completion.
Today we welcome Victorian super modified champion Ron Smith with his corvette. Ron finished third in the essay championships held at this park is your. The track here should suit him being very similar to his home track at Redline.

| SPEEDCARS The start of it is all
Not since the Wright brothers trying to fly was there so much interest in motor-powered vehicles. It was the advent of speedcars, small, open wheeled vehicles, powered by any thing from Austin 7 to an airplane engine. The unsung heroes, the terror of the tracks, the magnificent midgets, with their open cockpits.
Since these days speedcars racing has developed into a quest to see who can put engine into a car and go around a quarter mile or half mile oval to track quicker and better than the other guy. New motors and have been developed the better nine being the early Conversion on Ford A and B’s. Repco crossflow heads bolted on to the older model Holden motors, some of these still winning races in Australia.
The Offenhauser, possibly the most successful speedway motor ever seen, and now the Cesco, a Chevy V8 slice completely in half with fuel injection put on the side, is becoming very popular in America.
Tyres, which were once 3in. wide of the tractor type have grown to over 10in. wide and constructed of various compounds of rubber.
Construction of the chassis has built from old road car rails, to light weight Chrome-molly space frames with fully adjustable suspension, to regulate weight on the individual wheels for best track holding. There is no doubt, in it, spedcars have always been exciting machines, a spectacle in themselves.
Where will it all end?.... Who knows! In the year 2000 we coud see turbine-powered vechiles racing on cushions of air, however, they will still be the speedcars we love and driven by the men we admire.
