Speedway Veteran Harry Denton is fatally injured

At Rowley Park SA speedway veteran Harry Denton was fatally injured in the first event of the opening meeting of Rowley Park 1967-68 season when he dropped his solo to miss a fallen rider and was catapulted head first into the safety fence. Denton, one of the nation's leading sidecar riders, was also competing in the solo section at Rowley Park. The accident occurred in the solo scratch race, run immediately after a grand parade of all competitors had opened the Adelaide season. Robin Amundson fell in the second lap and Denton laid his bike down to avoid him. However, the solo dug in and Harry was thrown into the fence. He was taken to hospital, but succumbed in the following Friday. His death is a severe blow to Australian speedway.
