Bob McMillian & Bill Wigzell McMillian SA Champ."After one spectacular pileup that sideline favourite Phil Herreen in the 1st corner and a second absolutely amazing series of barrel rolls & pirouettes by Grant Coombe, who came out of the crash unharmed, ex NT driver Bob McMillian led Bill Wigzell home after a desperate 20 lap duel to take the honors, with John Fenton coming 3rd." "Suddenly" No 88 |
Dear Sir, It made me very mad to hear the remarks some people made when Australia's greatest driver (Bill Wigzell) rolled during the Modified Feature race. Remarks such as, "I have been waiting all year to see that happen", "That'll learn you, you b - - - -," and "Good on you, Phil, you got him at last," made me realise why people see this as a blood sport. Have these people such short memories that they cannot remember cheering along with the rest of us at Wiggy beat the pants off all the Yanks, including Bob "Two Gun" Tattersall whilst driving the mighty Peugeot that Joe Braendler now drives. |

Come on, fellows, let us dismiss the prangs as a bit of bad luck and concentrate on the real idea of speedway-the good, clean honest racing that the sensible people like to see. Would it be possible to have the stewards publish a report in the programme each week like they do in horse racing. Then maybe people would understand the stewards' decisions a bit better. Congratulations to Rowley Park Management for having the best speedway in Australia. ROBERT CHARLES Rowley Park Magazine Mailbox 1972/3 Meeting 22 |
