SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S Bill "Wizard" Wigzell

Wigzell is the new Australian super-modified champ. Bill (pictured) drives a purple, wedge-shaped Dodge V8 owned by Kev Fischer.
Bill's win was a tremendous effort when you consider that he has been driving super-modifieds for less than 12 months. He first entered speedway back in '48 at the tender age of 18 when he tried his hand at solo racing.
At the age of 22 he stepped into a midget speedcar and since then has won all of the major championships at the Rowley Park Speedway in Adelaide. Bill is renowned for his driving of the Alec Rowe supercharged Peugeot speedcar recently purchased by fellow Adelaide driver, Joe Braendler.
Joe bought the car shortly after winning the Coca-Cola 100-lap speedcar event in his own AES Holden. He then sold this car to Sydney's Gary" Rush who in turn sold it to fellow ESRA driver, Jack Porritt. Bill is currently driving Bruce Rickard's Holden No. 8 with considerable success.

Bill is married with two kids and conducts the majority of his racing in his home State - South Australia. He earns his living as a marine salesman. Bill says his biggest thrill in speedway came when he defeated Bob Tattersall and Mike McGreevey when they came out on their annual tour a number of seasons ago. In his tiny Peugeot he held off the powerful Offies in a number of races at Adelaide's Rowley Park circuit.
