SMALLER CAMSHAFT.and SUPERSTOCK 28-Dec-2005
We are trying a smaller grind on the camshaft. We were stuck when the engine was being freshened and the hurricane hit in America. The 55mm camshaft in the engine had some worn lobes and needed to be replaced so we ordered the parts from America but the parts never came because the cam manufacturer was underwater in the hurricane. This left us in a predicament but Malcolm from CamTech could rescue us by regrinding the old cam. We have thought about altering the valve timings for a long time, so now seemed like the opportunity to experiment without loss because we had no choice. And regrinding the cam is a lot cheaper experiment than buying a new 55mm cam. So we settled on a grind and assembled the engine. The smaller cam has altered the carburetion requirement significantly so we are sneeking up on the new tune. On the Dyno the engine made more torque and more power than the Holleys and used 60 horsepower less fuel doing it. The boxing day meeting at WSID was our first race meeting with the new cam and the engine was set with a soft safe tune because The Shrinker was not able to attend the meet. The engine performed good and we look forward to sneaking up on the new combo.
We are having a go at SuperStock
The SuperStock classes have caught our interest and the car has been configured to run in A/Gas Automatic. SuperStock is a different form of racing where you run on a nationally set handicapping system and the first car to the end (legally) wins. The advantage over SuperSedan is that you cant break out. The disadvantage is you have to be able to go at the top pace in Australia. SuperStock is a weight per cubic inch handicapping class. The current handicap for our class is 8.39 seconds. The car can run under this index so it should be competitive and fun to do the class. |
